Shared Maternity Care is a model of care in which a woman is cared for by the hospital and a shared maternity care affiliate GP. Its aim is to provide high quality community-based care and is appropriate for women who have a low-risk pregnancy.

Dr Nathalie Gutierrez is an accredited Shared Care Doctor, and she provides most of the antenatal and postnatal care, while the hospital manages the birth and immediate postnatal care.

Research shows that having a known carer during pregnancy results in less hospital admissions, less interventions in labour and birth, higher breastfeeding rates and women being more satisfied with their childbearing experience.
